Dr. Tell,I have no idea what niche these guys filled out, all I know is that I did enjoy them and had a good time. I did enjoy them and as a professional band they were one. I'm Talking about about Bobby and the Midnites.Cochran on lead Weir in his usual slot a more than competent keyboard player and probably the best rock/jazz drummer alive these days Billy Cobham.I saw them mid/late 80s in the gym @ Rutgers and it was the perfect venue for this band. they did rate bigger than a club,a theater maybe way to sedate and the gym w/ just the right amount and proper security was on target.( I got there so early they asked me what my position was and told them stage ramp left, sounded good at the time and as you could imagine I me a t-shirt and stick-um leg pass for the show)

Yeah, a lot of my Bay Area friends/relatives LOVED them, esp around 79-82 or so...? Never saw them--only Kingfish.
